I knew my teeth were bad. They look bad for certain. We’re a single income family and most of our money goes to raising our children and paying mortgage and utilities. As a result, I’ve neglected my dental care. I finally got embarrassed enough when a dear friend told me my gums looked unhealthy. I hadn’t noticed because that type of thing can sneak up on you. I decided it was time to go to a dentist myself. I did research until I found an affordable dentist who seemed to have a good reputation. Yet, I’m two years into his treatments and hardly see any improvement in my teeth. He has me coming in every two months for treatments and yet still hasn’t even recommended braces for my crooked teeth. My friends who went to more expensive dentists always have things recommended to them to make their smile beautiful. Is he dragging this out to make more money? I’m not seeing my difference in my smile.
Because you’re going in every two months, it seems to indicate you have serious gum disease and your dentist is focusing on that. If your gum disease isn’t healed any type of orthodontics would be dangerous. In fact, the push and pull on your teeth through braces, would very likely cause your teeth to come loose and fall out. Then you won’t be looking for an affordable dentist, but tooth replacement options.
That being said, two years seems a long time with the close proximity of all your appointments. I don’t think seeking a second opinion on where your oral health stands is unreasonable. If you find that your dentist is dragging out treatments, there are other affordable dentists. Be sure to leave a review about your dentist and check the reviews of any dentist you’re considering using yourself.
Affordable Ways to Improve Your Smile
Based on what you mentioned, it seems the appearance of your smile really bothers you. When you get the all clear on your gums, there are two affordable procedures which can greatly improve your smile’s appearance.
The first is Invisalign. It’s a form of orthodontics which are clear. They’re very popular with adults as they can straighten their teeth without anyone realizing.
The second is teeth whitening. This procedure alone strips years off your appearance in general. Your smile looks youthful and healthy. You can even combine Invisalign and teeth whitening allowing the aligners to double as whitening trays.
